In most cities, the social calendar peaks in summer. In Houston, summer is when everyone hides indoors. The real season starts with the first cool front, and it doesn't stop until the humidity returns in late spring.
Why it's magic
Evenings in the 60s and 70s, string lights over every courtyard and a city that's been waiting months to sit outside. Restaurants open their doors, rooftops fill up and suddenly everybody wants to meet for "just one drink."
The patio checklist
- A light jacket or wrap for when the sun goes down
- Bug spray in your bag (it's still Houston)
- A reservation, because everybody has the same idea
- Your phone charged for the golden-hour photos
Make a night of it
Start with an early dinner outside, walk to a nearby bar for a nightcap and end with dessert. In patio season, Houston is the most social city in Texas.
